As the debt "negotiations" draw closer, Matt decides to slightly change topics by reading a listener's e-mail. In this message, the listener uses the autobiography of President Gerald Ford to analyze what's going on today, namely who truly is running our government. In the second half of the hour, the author of "The Five Laws of Liberty: Defending a Biblical View of Freedom" Scott Hyland joins Matt on-air to talk about his book and what defines "freedom".

In a recent speech on the Senate floor, Marco Rubio (R-FL) perfectly outlines yet again the problems in Washington, specifically with spending and the debt. The Clarkcast features clips from Rubio's speech and how it describes the problems we're facing as a nation. Next, Matt reads three quotes from different Democratic leaders in 2006 and 2007. Back in the Bush days, Senators Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Harry Reid all voted against raising the debt ceiling. Today, they accuse others of trying to "blow up the economy" if the debt ceiling isn't raised. The second half of the hour begins with an overview of the 17th Amendment. Matt argues that the 17th Amendment is the most damaging of all Progressive amendments from Woodrow Wilson's era. Last, the show outlines the irony and hypocrisy of Obama's Job Czar (Jeffery Immelt) exporting thousands of jobs to China.
